The contagion began in Leticia, Amazonas, and rapidly permeated the jungle’s depth reaching the most faraway Indigenous Territories. Seven months later, the fragility of a healthcare system that doesn’t take into account the specific conditions of rural areas, became even more evident and contrasted with the effectiveness of the indigenous traditional practices and knowledge systems: the foundations with how they manage, understand, and conserve their Indigenous Territories and, in this particular emergency, contain the disease.
